Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs Mr. Massad Boulos. The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdel- Atty, Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) Major General Hassan Rashad , Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo Mr. Robert Silverman, Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy Mr. Scott Sanford, as well as Mr. Daniel Fullerton and Mr. Jeffrey Sillin from the American side.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said Mr. Boulos conveyed to the President the greetings and appreciation of U.S. President Donald Trump. President El-Sisi asked for his greetings be conveyed to President Trump and expressed his deep appreciation for the strategic cooperation between Egypt and the United States, noting the momentum it has gained.
The meeting addressed developments in Sudan. Both sides emphasized the need to exert all necessary efforts to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people. The President welcomed the international community’s pledge of €1.5 billion during the Berlin Conference recently held to respond to humanitarian needs in Sudan. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s vision for resolving the Sudanese crisis, based on preserving Sudan’s sovereignty and unity, rejecting external interference and attempts to undermine its security and stability or create a political vacuum, and highlighting Egypt’s active engagement within the Quadripartite Mechanism aimed at ending the war and launching a political track to reach a sustainable peaceful settlement. Mr. Boulos expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role regarding the Sudan crisis, commending its efforts to restore security and stability and affirming the United States’ commitment to close coordination with Egypt and the Quadripartite countries in this regard.
The meeting also focused on the developments in Lebanon. President El-Sisi praised President Trump’s significant efforts to reach a ceasefire. The meeting further covered a number of regional issues of mutual interest between Egypt and the United States. The President welcomed the agreement reached between the Congolese government and the M23 movement to expand the enhanced joint regional mechanism for monitoring the recently signed ceasefire, affirming Egypt’s support for U.S. efforts in this regard. President El-Sisi also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to promote stability in the Horn of Africa and its firm rejection of any actions that could threaten the security and stability of countries in the region.
The President stressed that Egypt’s water security is an existential issue and a top priority, emphasizing that Egypt will not compromise its vital water interests. The meeting also reflected the continued alignment of Egyptian and U.S. views on the need for de-escalation and the pursuit of political solutions to various regional crises.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Boulos affirmed the United States’ and President Trump’s appreciation for the President’s wise policies and for the efforts undertaken by President El-Sisi and the Egyptian state institutions to resolve the regional crises and conflicts, underscoring the importance of continued coordination and consultation between Egypt and the U.S. in this regard.
