President El-Sisi Speaks with UK Prime Minister

alhadath – cairo

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.

The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the call addressed a number of issues between Egypt and the United Kingdom. Both sides reviewed the level of ongoing cooperation between the two countries, and agreed to further enhancing the partnership in various fields, particularly in trade and investment, to achieve common interests and contribute to supporting the development and prosperity of both peoples.
The British prime minister looked forward to fulfilling his scheduled visit to Egypt at the soonest time.

The call also addressed developments in the Gaza Strip. Both sides emphasized the need to reach an immediate ceasefire, ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip, lift Israeli restrictions imposed on its passage, and release hostages and captives. They also emphasized the rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land. President El-Sisi affirmed that any move in this direction constitutes a direct threat to regional peace and could lead to unprecedented waves of displacement and illegal migration to Europe. The President reiterated, in this context, Egypt’s welcome of the United Kingdom’s announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine in September 2025 and noted that this step is an important development in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, mainly the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and consistent with international efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution, being the sole way to achieve sustainable peace and stability in the region.

The British prime minister expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continuous efforts, in coordination with the State of Qatar and the United States, to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, end the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip, and secure the release of hostages and captives.

The President and the British prime minister condemned the recent Israeli attack on the State of Qatar and stressed that it was a flagrant violation of international law and the principle of respect for state sovereignty.

The call touched on developments pertinent to a number of regional crises. Both sides confirmed the importance of resolving these crises through political and peaceful means, while ensuring the preservation of the unity and sovereignty of states and the safeguarding of the resources of their peoples.
