Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke by phone with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the call saw the confirmation of both presidents of the deep ties between Egypt and South Africa and their development across various fields.
Both presidents expressed their satisfaction with this positive trajectory and highlighted the importance of further strengthening cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade sectors, and enhancing coordination and consultation mechanisms in regional and international fora, most notably the African Union, the United Nations, and the BRICS.
The call touched on the latest regional developments. President Ramaphosa expressed his appreciation for the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and the resulting agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
In this context, President El-Sisi stressed the necessity of fully implementing the agreement’s terms, consolidating the ceasefire, ensuring the sufficient flow of humanitarian aid, and expediting the launch of the reconstruction process. The President also noted Egypt’s intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in the Gaza Strip at the end of November 2025.
President Ramaphosa said his country looked forward to coordinating closely with Egypt in these efforts and emphasized South Africa’s interest to actively participate in the conference and engage in the reconstruction process.
The two presidents agreed on the importance of capitalizing on the current political momentum to create conditions conducive for launching a comprehensive peace process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The call also addressed ways to enhance peace and stability in Africa. Both presidents affirmed their commitment to continuing coordination and joint action to end the ongoing conflicts in several African countries and resolve them peacefully and sustainably, thus fulfilling the aspirations of their peoples for development and prosperity.
