86 International Media Outlets from 32 Countries Cover the House of Representatives Elections

A large number of correspondents accredited in Egypt representing major international media outlets have shown interest in participating in the media coverage of the Elections of the House of Representatives due this November in Egypt.

The Chairman of the Board of the State Information Service SIS Diaa Rashwan said that the SIS has been readied for the regulation of the coverage by the foreign media of the Elections, in accordance with the same regulations adopted during the elections of the Senate. 86 foreign media outlets drawn from 32 countries from different corners of the world have received due accreditation and permits to cover the elections. These include 21 global news agencies, 6 global and regional radio and TV networks, 25 foreign TV channels, 23 news and online websites that all are drawn from 32 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, China, France, Cuba, Japan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, the Russian Federation, Morocco, Yemen, the Netherlands, Libya, Qatar, Syria, Kuwait, Switzerland, Algeria, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The State Information Service has set up a Situation Room at the Foreign Press Center FPS, affiliated with the SIS, for the regulation and follow-up of the work of the foreign media correspondents during the election process. Four direct phone lines have been provided to ensure that correspondents perform their media coverage smoothly and effectively, in addition to other means of correspondence the likes of email and WhatsApp. The Situation Room would provide due facilitations to correspondents, take the necessary measures to ease any obstacles or problems, and most importantly to make sure that correspondents remain committed to the ethical standards of the media work during the elections and correct them should they fail to commit to these universally established ethical standards.

Another situation room has also been set up jointly between the Foreign Information Sector and the Information Sector of the State Information Service to monitor, translate, provide content analysis to all reports published by the foreign media outlets on the elections everywhere in the world. This Situation Room would also correct factual errors, misleading or inaccurate reports should there be any.

Furthermore, the Internal Information Sector, affiliated with the State Information Service, has launched, through its centers spanning all over the governorates of Egypt, campaigns to raise the awareness of voters to participate in the political process in general and these parliamentary elections in particular, with a special focus on consolidating the concepts of citizenship and affiliation to the homeland, including the “Egypt for All Its Citizens Campaign”.
