Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke over the phone with President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said President El-Sisi lauded the remarkable progress in Egyptian-Kenyan bilateral relations. The President emphasized the need to further advance these relations across an array of fields of mutual interest, notably the economic, trade and investment sectors in order to achieve the developmental goals of the two brotherly nations and their peoples.
Kenyan President Ruto concurred with President El-Sisi, commending the momentum and progress in bilateral relations. He also underscored his country’s commitment to forging closer cooperation with Egypt so as to elevate ties to a level commensurate with the profound fraternal bond and history the two countries share. President Ruto expressed his anticipation for President El-Sisi’s visit to Kenya.
The call also reviewed a multitude of regional issues of mutual concern, primarily the latest developments in Sudan. The President reiterated Egypt’s steadfast position with regard to the Sudanese crisis, which is based on the imperative of a cessation of the conflict and of human rights violations, and support for Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions. President El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to support initiatives aimed at restoring peace and stability. For his part, the Kenyan President commended Egypt’s role in supporting Sudan, containing regional tensions, and resolving conflicts across the region and the African continent.
The two Presidents also discussed the situation in the Horn of Africa region, and agreed on engaging in intensive political consultations and coordination so as to bolster peace and stability in the region.
The call also focused on the Nile water dossier and the opportunities available for cooperation among the Nile Basin countries. President El-Sisi reaffirmed the utmost importance of this issue to Egypt. The Kenyan President noted that Kenya is keen on reaching a consensus among all relevant parties. The two Presidents concluded the call by affirming their commitment to sustained and intensified engagement and joint coordination in the coming period.
