Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Prime Minister of Japan Ms. Takaichi Sanae.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that President El-Sisi began the call by congratulating the Japanese Prime Minister on the significant victory achieved by the Liberal Democratic Party under her leadership in the general elections held in February 2026. The President also emphasized Egypt’s pride in the distinguished relations and strategic partnership maintained with Japan.
For her part, the Japanese Prime Minister expressed her appreciation for communicating with the President, noting her government’s commitment to continuing and strengthening the strategic partnership with Egypt. She further affirmed Japan’s pride in its developmental role in supporting Egypt’s vital national projects.
The call reviewed overall bilateral relations between Egypt and Japan. President El-Sisi highlighted the growing momentum across various areas of cooperation, particularly in the education sector. The President expressed aspiration to expand the Egyptian-Japanese Schools project and increase their number across Egypt.
President El-Sisi also noted Japan’s significant contribution to supporting key projects, especially the Grand Egyptian Museum. The President further expressed his anticipation of welcoming the Japanese Prime Minister to Egypt soon to discuss ways to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields, including increasing investments and expanding Japanese tourism to Egypt, in a manner that reflects the depth of the distinguished relations between the two countries.
The call also touched on developments in a number of regional issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the Iranian crisis.
Both sides reaffirmed the alignment of views between Egypt and Japan on the necessity of reaching a peaceful resolution that spares the region the consequences of escalation and prevents worsening negative impacts on the global economy.
In this context, President El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s firm stance in support of the security and sovereignty of the Gulf countries, as well as Iraq and Jordan. The President reviewed Egypt’s endeavors to resolve the crisis, as well as the ongoing efforts to move forward with implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to its residents.
For her part, Ms. Takaichi expressed Japan’s deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role, under the leadership of the President, in maintaining regional security and stability. She underscored her government’s keenness to strengthen political consultation and coordination with Egypt regarding ongoing regional and international developments.
