Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Chairman and CEO of the French CMA-CGM Group, Rodolphe Saadé, on the sidelines of the Africa-France Summit held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the President welcomed the ongoing investment cooperation between Egypt and the company, which is one of the largest global players in container shipping and maritime transport.

President El-Sisi lauded the company’s efforts in the implementation of multiple projects in Egypt’s maritime and dry ports’ sector. The President specifically highlighted the company’s prominent role in establishing and operating Egypt’s first semi-automated container terminal, the “Red Sea Container Terminal” at Port Sokhna. President El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s interest to expand the company’s operations and investments, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, to capitalize on the new investment incentives provided by the state, as well as the significant development witnessed in Egypt’s maritime transport and infrastructure sectors.

Mr. Saadé expressed his gratitude for meeting with the President, affirming CMA–CGM’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Egypt and to leveraging the country’s strategic location and the remarkable advancements it has achieved in maritime transport, shipping capabilities, and associated logistics services.

The meeting also focused on the repercussions of current regional tensions on maritime navigation routes. The President presented Egypt’s vision, which urges the international maritime shipping community to work together to resolve bottlenecks and minimize their impact on global trade flows and supply chain stability, notably in the energy and food security sectors. The discussion further covered ways to forge closer cooperation so as to further enhance economic integration and trade exchange between Egypt and African countries and to reinforce maritime connectivity with the continent.
