This evening, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi visited the city of Alexandria accompanied by the President of the French Republic, President Emmanuel Macron.
Also present were the heads of delegations from the countries participating in the inauguration of the new headquarters of Senghor University, as well as Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo.
Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that the two presidents toured the tourist walkway along the Alexandria Corniche, reaching the entrance of the historic Qaitbay Citadel.
The two presidents listened to an explanation on the history of the construction of the Qaitbay Citadel, in the presence of Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy.
They also listened to a detailed briefing on the underwater archaeological excavations of the remains of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria.
The presentation was delivered by Senior Inspector at the General Administration of Underwater Antiquities at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed, and Director of the Alexandria Studies Center affiliated with the French Ministry of Research Dr. Thomas Faucher.
They also reviewed the archaeological and historical treasures recovered from various eras.
Following the tour, President El-Sisi hosted a dinner banquet in honor of the French president and the accompanying delegation, as well as the heads of delegations participating in the inauguration of the university’s new headquarters.
During the event, President El-Sisi renewed his welcome to the French president in Egypt, praising the remarkable progress in bilateral relations across various fields.
The President further looked forward to strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the areas of culture, tourism, antiquities, and the arts.
The President also expressed his appreciation for the countries participating in the inauguration of the university’s new headquarters and for their support of efforts to promote scientific and cultural cooperation among member states of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie.
The French president expressed his deep appreciation for visiting the historic city of Alexandria, which represents a global beacon of science and culture, as well as a pivotal center for cooperation among Mediterranean countries throughout history.
He affirmed France’s keenness to further deepen cultural ties between the friendly Egyptian and French peoples, thereby strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
