Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the Prime Minister of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria,
Sifi Ghrieb, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and delegations from both countries.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President El-Sisi commenced by emphasizing the strategic nature of relations between Egypt and Algeria, and the deep-rooted historical ties that bind the two brotherly nations. The President commended the increasing development and momentum in bilateral relations in recent years. The President asked the prime minister to convey his greetings to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, wishing Algeria continued progress and prosperity. The Algerian prime minister conveyed President Tebboune’s greetings to President El-Sisi, affirming the high esteem in which President El-Sisi is held by President Tebboune. He also emphasized Algeria’s commitment to working with Egypt to build upon the agreements reached between the two presidents during the Algerian president’s visit to Egypt in October 2024 to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The Algerian prime minister congratulated Egypt on the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and on the election of Dr. Khaled El-Enany as Director-General of UNESCO.
The meeting reflected shared consensus on the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors, including agriculture, industry, education, energy, as well as communications and information technology. This is in addition to intensifying political consultation and coordination on issues of mutual interest, both bilaterally and within the framework of regional and international organizations and institutions. The President commended the convening of the ninth session of the Egyptian-Algerian Joint Higher Committee in Cairo and stressed the need to capitalize on its outcomes to accelerate economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries. The meeting touched on prospects for enhancing cooperation in development, infrastructure, and the establishment of new cities and urban communities. Furthermore, it explored opportunities to increase mutual investments and strengthen economic ties, including encouraging Egyptian companies to expand their operations in Algeria.
The meeting addressed the latest regional developments. The President emphasized Egypt’s continued efforts with all parties to implement the agreement to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, as recently adopted in the relevant Security Council resolution, and to underpin the ceasefire. This is in addition to preventing and halting any violations of the agreement, enhancing the flow of humanitarian aid and preparing for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The President noted Egypt’s intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza. The meeting also underscored the need to end the practices perpetrated against Palestinians in the West Bank.
President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s positive role during its non-permanent membership of the Security Council in defending Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian cause, and commended Algeria’s historic position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Talks also addressed developments in a number of countries in the region. Both sides stressed the importance of avoiding any escalation due to the ensuing grave consequences, while emphasizing respect for the sovereignty of countries, their unity and territorial integrity and the capabilities of their people, and taking all necessary steps to protect civilians and stop violations against them.
