Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with the Prime Minister of Singapore , Lawrence Wong, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, stated that both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, expressing their appreciation for the strong ties between the two countries and their aspirations for further development in the coming period. This includes elevating economic cooperation, increasing investments, and activating mechanisms for bilateral dialogue at various levels.
The meeting also touched on the cultural relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them, particularly in terms of student exchange programs. This includes scholarships offered by Al-Azhar University for students from Singapore, as well as scholarships from Singapore’s educational and training institutions for Egyptian students. The prime minister of Singapore commended Al-Azhar’s important role in education and the introduction of moderate Islam.
The meeting also covered regional and international issues. Prime Minister Wong listened to President El-Sisi’s views on the situation in the Middle East, its political and economic implications on the global stage, and ways to restore regional stability. The Singaporean side expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in restoring regional stability and preventing the area from sliding into a full-scale war that shall have severe consequences on regional and international peace and security.
