Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President El-Sisi and UK PM Starmer underscored the strong relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom. They emphasized the two countries’ keenness on enhancing their bilateral relations across various fields, particularly in the economic and investment spheres, so as to serve the interests of both countries and their peoples.
The British Prime Minister said he looks forward to President El-Sisi’s acceptance of the invitation extended from the King of the United Kingdom to visit London. For his part, President El-Sisi confirmed the invitation extended to the British Prime Minister to visit Egypt later this year.
The call also touched on recent regional developments. President El-Sisi and UK Prime Minister Starmer lauded the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. They affirmed the necessity to commit to a return to the negotiating table for a peaceful resolution of the crisis and to refrain from resorting to military force to preserve regional stability, protect the resources of its peoples, and prevent the expansion of the conflict.
President El-Sisi stressed the significance of capitalizing on the current de-escalation to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of the sector. The President reaffirmed the vital need to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, through the establishment of an independent Palestinian State, along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The UK Prime Minister commended Egypt’s endeavors to achieve stability and peace in the Middle East, confirming his country’s keenness on coordinating and consulting with Egypt on various regional issues of common interest.
