Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s categorical condemnation and rejection of Iran’s targeting of the Gulf states, Jordan, and Iraq. The President stressed that these nations did not support or participate in the war against Iran, but rather contributed to de-escalation efforts and supported the Iranian-US negotiations to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis. The President said Egypt looked forward to upholding the principle of good neighborliness and stopping these attacks immediately. The President reiterated Egypt’s regret over the current escalation and its deep concern about its negative repercussions on regional stability and the well-being of the region’s peoples. The President reviewed Egypt’s efforts to stop the military operations and return to the negotiating track, stressing the necessity of exercising flexibility in this regard.
The Iranian president expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts and for President El-Sisi’s role in de-escalating tensions and affirmed that his country had participated in the rounds of negotiations to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
Iranian President Pezeshkian emphasized his country’s keenness on fraternal relations and good neighborliness with Arab states. President El-Sisi and his Iranian counterpart discussed possible ways to end the escalation, stressing Egypt’s readiness to exert every effort to mediate and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions to the current crisis. The President stressed that it was important for all parties to respect international law and the UN Charter, as well as respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and to refrain from interfering in their domestic affairs.
