Tuesday, 29 April 2025
“In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful”
My brother, Your Excellency João Lourenço,
President of the Republic of Angola,
Ladies and gentlemen,
It gives me pleasure to welcome His Excellency President João Lourenço on his esteemed visit to his second home, Egypt, wishing him and his esteemed delegation a pleasant stay and a fruitful visit. This visit is a testament to the robust historical relations that Egypt and Angola share. These relations date back to the 1960s and have established a solid foundation for a constructive partnership that we highly appreciate. Indeed, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries next November.
Today, His Excellency President Lourenço and I held a fruitful and constructive bilateral meeting, which reflected a convergence of visions and a shared political will, with the aim of promoting our bilateral relations toward broader prospects. This will contribute to leveraging the capabilities of our two countries and serving the interests of our fraternal peoples. We concurred on the critical need to forge closer cooperation across diverse fields, notably in the political, economic and investments sectors, and to bolster joint efforts to further advance relations, in a manner befitting their profound historical significance.
Committed to enhancing bilateral relations, a number of Memoranda of Understanding, MoUs, were signed in the domains of communications and information technology, as well as housing and infrastructure. This shall contribute to the consolidation of frameworks of cooperation in these sectors.
I confirmed to His Excellency, the President of Angola, Egypt’s preparedness to provide all forms of support and assistance to our brothers in Angola, notably in the areas of development and capacity-building in a multitude of areas, including the police, defense, healthcare, the media, tourism, agriculture, anti-corruption efforts, renewable energy, diplomacy as well as supporting the development of state institutions.
We also touched on avenues for cooperation between our two countries, within the framework of the strategic “Lobito Corridor” project. This corridor represents a significant and promising axis for continental development and a cornerstone for collaborative endeavors in the sectors of mining, energy, and infrastructure, ultimately benefiting our countries and peoples.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, we also focused on President Lourenço’s insightful vision for the African Union Chairmanship during the current year and exchanged views on several issues of mutual interest on the African arena, including the Horn of Africa, Sudan, combating terrorism and the situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In this regard, I would like to specifically expressed profound appreciation for the pivotal role His Excellency President Lourenço assumed in the mediation efforts concerning the crisis in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Furthermore, we underscored the imperative of upholding unified African positions on diverse international issues, and ensuring equitable representation for Africa within international institutions, particularly within the context of ongoing endeavors to reform and expand the UN Security Council. We agreed on the importance of accelerating the AU’s institutional reform process.
Moreover, we discussed the situation in Gaza, economic challenges, water scarcity, and climate change. Our deliberations reflected a convergence of views on these matters and we agreed to continue close coordination and joint consultation between Cairo and Luanda across various regional and international fora.
My brother, Your Excellency the President of Angola
It gave me immense pleasure to meet with you today. I reaffirm Egypt’s steadfast commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Republic of Angola for the good of our countries, peoples, as well as our African continent.
Your Excellency
Once again, I extend a warm welcome to you and your esteemed delegation to Egypt, your second home. It is my sincere wish that your visit will be both successful and fruitful, bringing further progress and development to our peoples.
Thank you
