The State Information Service (SIS) issued the second edition of the Human Rights bulletin, a quarter annual periodical that documents national efforts to promote and protect human rights in Egypt. The bulletin covers the period from January to March 2023.
The Bulletin sheds light on the Egyptian government’s human rights achievements, covering civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. SIS bases its assessment of those national measures on Egypt’s international human rights obligations and the National Human Rights Strategy that was launched by H.E. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in September 2021.
This edition of the bulletin documents national measures to promote certain rights including the right to liberty and security of person, right to freedom of faith, right to association, right to social security, children’s rights and women’s rights.
Several key measures were documented in the bulletin, including the raising the minimum wage, raising the “Takaful and Karama” payments and efforts to combat FGM. The measures also included SIS’s human rights awareness sessions in cooperation with the Arab Organization for Human Rights and Presidential directives to empower women and promote their rights.
These aforementioned measures had an immensely positive effect on the right to work, the right to social security, women’s rights and children’s rights. They also serve to support efforts to spread human rights culture in Egyptian society.
SIS publishes this quarter annual bulletin to draw attention to the human rights dimension of national measures and initiatives taken by the State. This in turn reflects the principle of transparency that SIS adopts in its interactions and communication with the press and public
