Red Sea Governor: 15 old military vessels began to be dumped after years of careful planning to preserve natural coral reefs
General Amr Hanafi Red Sea Governorate announced a new project to establish Egypt’s first underwater military museum by drowning 15 warships,this is the first time in Africa, This move celebrated on Thursday in Hurghada’s tourist marina, in the presence of Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad and a number of Arab environment ministers from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
The project aims to establish the first museum in Egypt and Africa to combine three alternative diving sites in Hurghada, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Red Sea Reserves and civil society organizations, after years of careful planning and preparation.
These sites are located off the coast of the Red Sea Governorate, where the most crowded sites are located to relieve pressure on natural coral reefs and create new ones.
It aims to provide an unforgettable experience combining history and the natural beauty of the marine environment.
The general secretary of the Red Sea Governorate stated that military equipment consisting of 15 warships, each of which has a unique story and special importance, will be dumped in three locations – Sha`b al-Saqala, Uruq al-Tawil, and Erq Jame` in Magawish, which will create new diving sites in Hurghada.
Red Sea Governor concluded his speech by thanking and appreciating the wise political leadership, His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, for his great support for the project and for every project that serves tourism and benefits the homeland and the citizen. He also thanked the Prime Minister, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, for overcoming many obstacles that faced The project, he also thanked the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, for her continuous follow-up and harnessing of all the ministry’s capabilities to support this project, and to everyone who participated in reaching this achievement from the various security and executive authorities and civil society, especially the Environment Preservation Association “HEBCA”, which played a major role in the exit This project to the light, wishing the guests of the province to enjoy the healthy and safe climate that characterizes in Hurghada City.
