Egypt denies collecting additional fees at Rafah crossing

alhadath – cairo

Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS) Dia Rashwan said that some media and social networks have broadcast allegations over the past few days about the collection of fees from travelers at the Rafah border crossing from the Gaza Strip to Egyptian lands. These allegations are based on unknown and individual sources without documentation.

Rachwan categorically denied the allegations related to the collection of additional fees from travelers from Gaza, as well as claims that an unofficial entity collected fees for the passage to Egyptian lands. He explained that only the official fees provided for by the Egyptian laws governing the operation of the Rafah border crossing, established by the Land Ports Authority, are collected, and that no increase has been applied.

Rashwan added that since the beginning of the entry of relief and humanitarian aid and fuel to the Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip through the Rafah port, Egypt’s contribution to it is not less than 70%. Currently, more than 150 trucks arrive daily, including 6 fuel trucks. Therefore, it makes no sense that Egypt that seeks alleviate the suffering of our Palestinian brothers will add any burdens on them in these disastrous circumstances, as some have been trying to promote during the recent period.

SIS Chairman said that explained that within the framework of Egypt’s continuous national duty towards the Palestinian cause, it did not receive any fees under any item from them after they entered the country, whether for treatment or residence, or even during their movements inside the country.
