Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on the sidelines of the 34th Arab Summit, held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said President El-Sisi expressed appreciation to the Iraqi Prime Minister for the warm reception and hospitality, lauding Iraq’s efforts in hosting the summit.
President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s confidence in Iraq’s leadership of joint Arab action during the coming year, in light of its presidency of the Arab Summit. The Iraqi Prime Minister appreciated this, and affirmed Egypt’s pivotal role in the Arab sphere and with regard to regional developments.
President El-Sisi commended Iraq’s progress in various sectors. The two sides reviewed ways to boost economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the infrastructure and energy sectors, as well as the role of Egyptian companies in supporting development programs in Iraq.
The two sides reiterated their keenness on exploring broader prospects for cooperation, serving the mutual interests of the brotherly peoples.
The meeting also touched on the latest regional developments and ways to restore regional stability. President El-Sisi and the Iraqi Prime Minister stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the delivery of humanitarian aid, considering it the only way to restore regional security.
They confirmed their complete rejection of any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian issue or displace the Palestinians, underscoring their commitment to the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
The two sides highlighted the vital need to avoid the expansion of the regional conflict, stressing the importance of restoring stability in Arab countries, respecting their sovereignty, protecting their borders, and safeguarding their territories.
