alhadath – cairo

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the Iranian president expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He thanked President El-Sisi for his efforts and partronage to bring Iran and the IAEA closer, which led to concluding an agreement to restore cooperation between the two sides, signed in Cairo on September 9, 2025, following several months of Egyptian mediation. The Iranian president also praised Egypt’s key role in paving the way for constructive dialogue.

President El-Sisi congratulated the Iranian president on the signing of the agreement between Iran and the IAEA, stressing Egypt’s commitment to supporting efforts to de-escalate and contain tensions, in light of escalation in the region that calls for intensified joint action to enhance stability and confront attempts to undermine peace and security. The President stressed the importance of engaging the parties concerned with the Iranian nuclear issue in a serious and constructive dialogue and returning to the negotiating table, in order to reach a peaceful settlement that ensures regional security and avoids further escalation.

The call also addressed regional developments, mainly the situation in the Gaza Strip. The two presidents emphasized the need to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and end the ongoing humanitarian suffering. They also emphasized their categorical rejection of attempts to force Palestinians towards displacement, and affirmed that the only way to achieve lasting stability in the region is through the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The two presidents also discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries in various fields to serve the interests of both peoples and contribute to consolidating regional security and stability.
