The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdel- Atty, and Director of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Hassan Rashad.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohammed El-Shennawy, said German Chancellor Merz commended the President’s efforts, which culminated in the Gaza Strip ceasefire agreement. He confirmed that the achievement of the accord would not have been possible without President El-Sisi’s efforts. Chancellor Merz expressed hope for a durable peace and affirmed Germany’s readiness to assist in the reconstruction process of the Gaza Strip.

President El-Sisi expressed his profound appreciation for Germany and its people, emphasizing his keenness on further strengthening and advancing Egyptian-German relations to reach the level of a strategic partnership. The President stressed the vital need to foster the presence of major German companies in the Egyptian market, particularly in light of the free trade agreements Egypt has concluded with Arab and African nations.

President El-Sisi noted that Egypt’s foreign policy is characterized by balance, proactivity, and a commitment to avoiding conflicts and achieving de-escalation. The President stressed the crucial importance of continuing intensive political coordination and cooperation between Egypt and Germany, particularly with regard to issues of mutual interest, such as the crises in Syria, Sudan, and Libya, confirming the need to prevent escalation. President El-Sisi appreciated Germany’s readiness to engage in the reconstruction efforts of Gaza. He also reiterated the urgent necessity of solidifying the ceasefire, preventing a renewed outbreak of conflict, and ensuring the delivery of the largest amount possible of humanitarian aid, affirming that Egypt is exerting every possible effort toward these ends.

During the meeting, the President expressed his appreciation for the support Egypt receives from Germany within the framework of the European Union. He said he looks forward for the success of the Egyptian-European Summit due in Brussels on October 22, 2025. The President extended an invitation to the German Chancellor to pay an official visit Egypt, an invitation which the Chancellor welcomed.

German Chancellor Merz, once again, thanked the President for the invitation to attend the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace. The Chancellor said he considers his meeting with the President to be the beginning of a new phase for forging closer bilateral relations. He reaffirmed that an end to the war in the Gaza Strip would not have been possible without President El-Sisi’s dedicated effort, and conveyed Germany’s appreciation to the President in this regard. The German Chancellor emphasized that he will encourage German companies to bolster their presence and investments in areas of mutual interest.
