Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources denies any Egyptian connection to the gas carrier involved in an accident off the Libyan Coast

The Ministry affirms that the tanker was not heading to any Egyptian port and is not linked to any gas-supply contracts with Egypt.

State Ministry for Information announces that it has received the following statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and hopes that Egyptian, Arab, and international media outlets—particularly those committed to accuracy and established professional standards—will give it due attention and publish it as they convey information to the domestic public and to those following Egyptian affairs abroad.

 State Ministry for Information also calls upon all Egyptian and non-Egyptian media outlets that published or broadcast the inaccurate news referred to in the Ministry of Petroleum’s statement to promptly correct it in accordance with the precise official data contained in this statement.

Statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral ResourcesThe Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources categorically denies all false news and misinformation that has been circulated regarding the liquefied natural gas carrier that was involved in an incident off the Libyan coast today. The Ministry affirms unequivocally that the tanker was not en route to any Egyptian port, nor is it included in any contracts for the supply or reception of liquefied natural gas shipments to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Ministry stresses that all claims made in this regard are entirely baseless. It urges all media outlets to verify information carefully and to refer to the Ministry’s official sources before publishing or circulating any information, in order to uphold professional media standards and prevent any confusion or misinformation.

The Ministry also affirms that it reserves its legal right—inside Egypt and abroad—against those who disseminate rumors or false information that harms Egypt’s national interests.
