President El-Sisi Lays Wreath on Unknown Soldier Memorial Marking Sinai Liberation Day

This morning, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, laid a wreath at the Armed Forces Martyrs’ Memorial and the tomb of the late President, Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat, on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of Sinai Liberation.

The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said that upon the President’s arrival at the Armed Forces Martyrs’ Memorial area, the President was received by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa.

The Guard of Honor performed the salute and the national anthem was played upon the President’s arrival. The President then laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as the music played the Martyr’s Salute, before proceeding to the tomb of late President Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat, where President El-Sisi laid a wreath and recited Al-Fatiha.

President El-Sisi’s visit to the memorial was attended by commanders of the main branches of the Armed Forces and a number of senior military commanders, in addition to Speaker of the House of Representatives Counselor Hisham Badawi; Speaker of the Senate Counselor Essam El-Din Farid; Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly; Grand Imam of Al-Azhar His Eminence Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb; Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark Pope Tawadros II; Minister of Interior Major General Mahmoud Tawfik, Minister of State for Military Production Dr. Salah Suleiman, andGovernor of Cairo Dr. Ibrahim Saber.
